Our story

Welcome

Welcome to the
Deming Luna Mimbres Museum,

Housed in the historic 1916 red-brick National Guard Armory, our museum is a vibrant gateway to the past, showcasing the rich history of Deming and the Mimbres Valley. Spanning over 25,000 square feet across three buildings—along with large outdoor exhibits—the museum is home to New Mexico’s largest and most diverse collection of historical displays.

As a proud recipient of the “Best Museum in New Mexico” title, we invite you to explore the everyday lives of the people who shaped our region—from indigenous communities and early settlers to the vibrant culture of modern-day Deming.

Mission

Our Mission

We are committed to preserving and sharing the everyday history of the people of Deming, Luna County, and the Mimbres Valley. As a non-profit supported by the Luna County Historical Society, we believe in making education and local heritage accessible to all. Admission is always free, and donations are gratefully accepted to support our ongoing work.

Museum History

The building that houses our main museum was originally completed in 1916, making it the very first National Guard Armory in the newly established state of New Mexico. In 1977, the Luna County Historical Society purchased the armory from the State of New Mexico and began transforming it into a museum. Since then, it has grown into a cornerstone of cultural preservation for our region.
